He's your brother, so you probably already know this

Note to my sister, and my sisters from another mother: Sunday is your brother's birthday. Some time around 9 or 10pm, stop what you are doing and celebrate in the appropriate fashion. Mom can't remember the exact time he was born, which leads me to believe that he was the one found on the front steps.

In other news... this morning when I called day care to tell them the kids would be home again today, the director sounded a little surprised. She asked if everything is okay, and I told her Nico is still sick and that I am also not feeling so great. This should have been fairly easy to believe since I sound more like a sultry night club singer than my usual self, but still, she was surprised. And I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she was surprised. People drop their sick children at day care all the time. And, really, that's not cool.

If your kid -- your child -- is ill, take a goddamn vacation day or give up a couple hundred dollars from your next paycheck and let him/her spend the day at home. You're full of shit if you claim it's too expensive to stay home with your baby, and then you drive off in your Benz. The economy is sucking big donkey anyway, and you sound like an asshole telling your co-workers your kid is sick but he's at day care anyway haha. If you are worried about not being able to afford one of your uptight Brooks Brothers outfits, then act like a normal person and wait for a sale. You're not doing anyone any favors by trying to pass your 101.2 fever-having sack of germs off as being perfectly fit for school.

Maybe not everyone feels the same way, but I am perfectly fine with adjusting my budget in order to let my sick child(ren) spend a day at home instead of forcing them to feel shitty all day and come home in even worse shape than they left. If I could give a punch in the teeth to every parent I see dumping their so-obviously-ill kid at day care, I would have the bloodiest knuckles on the planet. Satisfying as that would be, I realize it's simply not acceptable. The best I can do is keep the babies here, let them get better, and roll my eyes at you the next time I see you feign shock when the teacher tells you your kid's forehead feels hot.

Dance fever

Another day at home. A full day of the kids lying around, bored out of their minds with fever. Now that they kind of play together, it's not so bad. But they really weren't up for the usual level of mayhem. Anyway, after nap time we had an early dinner and they both ate plenty. Around six o'clock I opened my computer and put on some music. Both of the kids perked up a little, so I decided it was time for a dance party. And they went bonkers. Nico spent most of his energy spinning and running around in a circle, and Livi always has trouble holding herself still whenever she hears anything with a beat -- she showed off every move she knows. Here's our dance fever playlist:

1. Boogie Nights - Heatwave
2. Ring My Bell - Anita Ward
3. Got to Give It Up - Marvin Gaye
4. Upside Down - Diana Ross
5. Everybody - Madonna

And that's about it. Small children with fevers, as it turns out, can really only go full steam for about fifteen minutes. After Madonna, I turned on the television for Nico and I put Olivia to bed. Then I changed Nico out of last night's pajamas and into tonight's astronaut bear shirt with coordinating footie pants. He has called for me twice in the past hour, which is unusual, so I know he must still feel pretty crummy. As for myself, I am going to listen to "Upside Down" one more time, finish watching BBC World News, have a snack, and wait until just after midnight to go to sleep.

A messgae to Thom Yorke

Seriously, dude, stop peering into the depths of my soul and reading my thoughts. Haven't we been over this before?

Welcome home, titan.

So you delivered, God. Thank you. Someone from the Apple store called me a little after noon today to tell me my computer was back from the depot. This woman probably heard me batting my eyelashes with glee when she told me I could come pick it up any time. Not only is my machine back at home where it belongs, it's also got some spiffy new housing and a new screen that's sparkling clear. My power issue is solved as well. Now when I plug in the charger, the titan is supplied with necessary electrical juice as opposed to just making that faint crackling sound. Ooh, and a system upgrade. Sweet.

It looks like I'll be holding true to my promise about keeping a sex-free mind for the night, thanks to a stressful afternoon at the office. I mean come on, God, you saw it all. The apologetic warning phone call, followed by the one-sided conference call, followed by a second apology... you saw the emails... you heard that last call that came in at five minutes to five. This could be the least interesting night of my week, so it's a good thing we're talking now. Take it easy, try to have a little fun, and see what you can do about world peace. Appreciated. Good night.

Dear God,

If you could fix it so that I can get my computer back tomorrow, I would seriously owe you one. In exchange, I'll stop thinking about sex all day long. Thank you. Now work your magic.

Love,
Me

Frida

I simply cannot get enough of Frida Kahlo. I parked the kids in front of the television for an hour at breakfast so I could look at these.
